Natalie Cardosi scored six tries as the Dundee Valkyries rugby team made it four wins from four in women’s Arnold Clark Caledonia Midlands East One on Sunday.

They travelled to Inchmacoble and put Strathmore to the sword, being unstoppable in a 128-0 bonus-point victory.

As well as Cardosi, Olivia Meiklejohn helped herself to five tries, with captain Stephanie Craig, Katya van der Heijden, Emma Mackinnon (2), Louise Whillans, Brooke Barr, Elouise Salt, Olivia Barry-wilson and Erin Davie also crossing.

Mackinnon converted 14 of the 20 tries to give her 38 points on the day.

Strathmore have now lost four from four, with Dundee second, but the hosts never gave up and should be commended for their efforts on a tough day.

Howe of Fife are fourth in the same division after they were handed a walkover 28-0 bonuspoint victory over Corstorphine.

Broughton are top on points difference above Dundee after a 43-10 bonus-point win at Grangemouth, but they have played a game more.

In women’s Caledonia Midlands East Two, Kirkcaldy are second behind leaders Kelso after a battling 28-22 bonus-point home win over Leith.

Perthshire are fourth after an excellent 61-15 triumph at home over Bannockburn with a bonus point. The Dundee Valkyries second team lost 22-15 at home to Lismore and are seventh.

There were positives to take from Dundee Rugby men’s National One loss at Jed-forest on Saturday, but they just did not create enough chances to stay in the game, while ill-discipline was also an issue.

That is the opinion of assistant coach Clinton Davey, who saw the side lose 42-28 in the end at Riverside Park, taking a four-try bonus, but still sitting bottom of the standings with seven defeats from seven as a result.

“It was a bit of a slow start and that saw us 18-0 down quite quickly, but as we got into the game we got back two tries to reduce the deficit to 1814,” Davey said.

“However, ill-discipline once again cost us throughout the game, which allowed Jed to stay ahead throughout.

“When we had ball and could put phases together in broken play we looked dangerous and put Jed on the back foot, but we just did not create enough of these opportunities throughout the 80 minutes.”

Brenton Bekker, Adam Flynn, Evan Taylor and Callum Nicol were the try scorers in the Borders with captain Stuart Kirk converting all four of them.
