3. Jubilee

DHSFP was 50 years young in 1930 but the anniversary season was paid scant respect by Aberdeen University who visited Arbroath Road to record an 8 – 3 victory.

Club captain, George F Ritchie was named in the Scottish Trial Team of January 1930 but the esteemed Mr Ritchie had to wait over two years before pulling on the dark blue of Scotland to face England at Twickenham in 1932.

The Midlands league of 1929/30 comprising Panmure, Perthshire, St Andrews, Kirkcaldy, Newport and of course Dundee HSFP finished with the FP’s in runners up spot to Kirkcaldy.

To mark their 1st 50 years, the Dundee HSFP Jubilee Dinner was held in the Kidd buildings on September 12 1930 with one of the ‘Immortals’, Mr T.C. Ferguson speaking.

1930 also saw the club reclaim the Midland’s Sevens Title after a four year hiatus, beating Kirkcaldy 17 – 3 thanks to tries by Taylor and Suttie and goals from Ireland (2) and Smith (drop).

By the end of the year, Dundee HSFP were sitting undefeated atop the Midlands League having scored 202 points and conceding 22 in just six games.
